Nurse Practitioner Bursary - Part Time Studies

The Nurse Practitioner Bursary for Part Time Studies is available to NWT residents who are registered with the RNA NT/NU, and who are accepted in a part time program at either the Aurora College Nurse Practitioner Education Program in Yellowknife, or a Nurse Practitioner undergraduate or masters degree program offered at an accredited post secondary institution in Canada.

Return of Service to the GNWT as a Nurse Practitioner

For each approved course in a Canadian Nurse Practitioner program

Reimbursement of course tuition and required text books, plus $500.00

With written verification of successful completion, and submission of original receipts

10 weeks return of service for every $1,000 paid to the bursary recipient


  • This bursary consists of reimbursement of tuition fees and required text books, plus $500.00 per course upon proof of successful completion of each course required in an accredited Canadian Nurse Practitioner program. Original receipts from the school for paid tuition and text books must be provided.
  • Applicants should plan ahead, on a fiscal year basis (April 1 to March 31), the course(s) they will take. Reimbursement of tuition and textbooks, and payment of the bursary will be made only in the same fiscal year in which the student passes the course(s) (see page 5 of this application package).
  • Applicants for this bursary must agree to fulfill a Return of Service to the GNWT Health and Social Services system, during which they agree to practice in the NWT as a Nurse Practitioner.

Students approved for funding under this bursary program are not eligible for other bursaries from the Department of Health & Social Services and must provide written verification from their employer(s) that they are not being sponsored for their Nurse Practitioner program of study.
